Seasons and shopping

I love to shop for my children's clothing six months in advance because that is my personality. The problem is guessing according to their present growth rate what size they will be. Sometimes I can find a good buy sometimes not. It always seems that socks and t-shirts always end up being bought during present. When seems the best time to buy clothes? does it seem your kids grow more during certain seasons?
